The Story of Nasty Sometime after building Little Slice of Hell, but before turning it into Little Slice, I built Nasty. In the summer of 1998 I got my hands on a giant 50 inch rip saw. It was the coolest thing. I had to turn it into a robot. Building Nasty was the easiest and cheapest robot I've built to date. I simply slapped dive motors from Little Slice of Hell onto a steel frame alongside some batteries and a speed controller. Once I bolted the huge saw blade on top I was done. Nasty didn't move around too quickly, but it did have a wicked spin cycle. Which was the point. Although it was a cool robot I didn't feel Nasty had what it took to win. Plus it was way over weight at 240 lbs., so I eventually scrapped it after videotaping it in action. I did take the saw blade to Long Beach BattleBots for fun. Note: I wind up scrapping a lot of my robots for two good reasons. 1. It's usually better to rebuild a robot from scratch rather that take an old robot and continually modifying it. 2. I don't have a lot of storage space and robots over 200 lbs. take up too much room. |
